Congratulations to the Chamber's 2009 Scholarship Recipient Allison Kay Mitchell
The Chamber is pleased to announce that it awarded its $500 Scholarship to a very deserving young lady:
Allison Kay Mitchell is a senior at Appomattox County High School graduating with a 3.93 GPA , ranking her 16 out of 148 students in the Class of 2009. Allison has also been busy during her junior & senior years taking college courses at CVCC that will transfer to Longwood University in August. In addition to her outstanding academic performance, Allison has been very active in various extracurricular activities, including holding the positions of vice president of HOSA, secretary of DECA, and elected philanthropist for the Greater Lynchburg Community Trust during her 2008-2009 school year. Allison has also been a volunteer at the local nursing home, and is working in the daycare center at the Memorial United Methodist Church.
Upon graduation, Allison will continue her education at Longwood University in the pursuit of a degree in medicine with the goal of becoming a physical therapist.
Congratulations Allison! Best of luck to you as you embark on this new journey in your life.

The Chamber is now accepting applications for its 2009 Scholarship - deadline for applications is May 27th.
The Chamber is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for its 2009 Chamber Scholarship.
Purpose and Criteria The Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship is intended to provide financial support and assistance to any high school senior that deserves assistance. The money awarded is intended to be used by the recipient to cover expenses associated with higher education.
The recipient of the Scholarship must be a senior in high school, and must be accepted to an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher learning (college or vocational school). The recipient must have a 2.5 or better Grade Point Average (GPA).
NOTE: Applications are limited to those high school seniors who are in the immediate family of either a current member of the Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce OR a current member's employee. An immediate family member is someone who resides in the same household.
**Family members of the Chamber's current Board of Directors or Scholarship Committee members are ineligible to apply for the Chamber Scholarship.**
Amount of Scholarship The Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce will award one $500.00 scholarship in any given year. The recipient will receive a certificate on their high school's Senior Awards day and a check will be mailed to the institution in which they are enrolled.
Required for Application 1. Signed and completed scholarship application (see link below for application); 2. Letters of recommendation from school counselor/teachers; 3. Letters of recommendation from two (2) other sources; 4. High school transcript; 5. Short explanation of extracurricular activities and community service; and 6. Two-page essay stating why they deserve the scholarship.
Please note that all information submitted will be kept strictly confidential. The completed package must be received by the Chamber NO LATER THAN MAY 27TH. Packages can be hand-delivered to the Chamber at 276 Court Street or can be mailed to:

Any packages received after May 27th will not be considered for the 2009 Scholarship.

2008 - Allyson Caroline Taylor - Allyson is now pursuing a degree in biochemistry at Virginia Tech with the goal of studying medicine at the Medical School at Duke University in the hopes of becoming a cardiac surgeon or neurosurgeon. 2007 - Robert Carl DeMuth - Carl is now studying archaeology at Marshall University. 2006 - Ashley Nicole O'Brien - Ashley is now pursuing a career in nursing that will begin at CVCC and culminate at Lynchburg General Hospital's School of Nursing! 2006 - Carrie Elizabeth Taylor - Carrie is now pursuing an education degree at Longwood University with the goal of becoming a Special Education Teacher!
Best of luck to these students as they embark on this new journey in their lives.
