The Chamber is proud to present Jillian Mitchel with its 2006 Female Citizen of the Year award at its annual membership dinner in November, 2006. Jillian is the owner/operator of the Longacre Bed & Breakfast, The Appomattox Gallery & Tea Room, and she is now the director of the new Appomattox Courthouse Theatre.
Jillian is very interested in retaining historic Appomattox structures by finding new venues for the buildings. The Appomattox Gallery (in the former True Value building) boasts a collection of antiques, crafts & collectibles that are available through various independent vendors. The Appomattox Tea Room (adjacent to the Gallery) has been turned into a charming location to host private tea parties & receptions, including an upstairs party room designed specifically for little girls' parties. Each upstairs room has its own color scheme and theme -- a must see for everyone! And, the former courthouse has found a new life as the Appomattox Courthouse Theatre and home of the Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce. The Theatre is now home to a community theatre and hosts various performing arts classes (music, dance, karate, etc.). The Theatre has already produced the following performances: Anne-Arky (a backstage youth comedy), Whodunnit! (an adult murder mystery), Duke Ellington's Nutcracker, and Annie will be performed in mid-January 2007.
