"Appomattox  Cheerz"

Typically held on the third Friday of each month at Abbitt Memorial Park or Courtland Field in downtown Appomattox from 5:30-9pm. Events include live performances from local bands, food & beverages (beer & wine coolers are available - proper ID required to obtain a beer bracelet and/or beer tickets), a 50/50 raffle, as well as a local non-profit organization selling drinks, food & snacks.  Lawn chairs are always welcome, however, NO coolers or pets please.  All children must be accompanied by an adult and must be supervised at all times.

All shows are held at the Appomattox County High School Auditorium located at 198 Evergreen Avenue, Appomattox (434-352-7146).

Ticket prices:  Adults ($15); Children 6-12 ($5); Children under 6 (free).  Tickets go on sale January 5, 2009 and may be purchased at the following locations:  Appomattox (CarQuest and Jamerson Bldg. Supply); Farmville (Taylor Forbes); and Lynchburg (Lynchburg Music Center).

Mar. 7 Social Media Seminar 2009 

Do you want to learn how to use social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and more?  Do you want to be inspired about connecting with your community as a business leader, educator, politician, or resident?  If so, then this seminar is for you.

This seminar will teach you how to use relevant social media tools in classes and workshops as well as be inspired by Joe Gerstandt, a nationally-known specialist in diversity and communication, and Jennifer Mills, a Lynchburg specialist in social media, during this all-day seminar.  Other social media users who will take part in this seminar's workshops include Jason Fowler from Wisely Woven, a Bedford media company; Copeland Casati, a Richmond businesswoman with a media company and a green-building company; and Linda Goin, publisher of Appomattox News.

This all-day seminar (8:30am to 4:30pm) is casual so please dress comfortably.  Bring a notebook, pen, laptop (geared to wireless connection if you have one), and your personal refreshment beverage (coffee & tea will be provided).  Seminar begins at 9am - please arrive early for coffee and registration.

The seminar will be held at the Appomattox Community Center.

Town Hall Meeting

The Chamber will host a Town Hall Meeting on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 7:30am at the Appomattox Community Center.  Featured speakers include Congressman Tom Perriello and Delegate Watkins Abbitt, Jr.

Light breakfast fare will be provided.  NOTE:  There is no charge to attend this event, however, advance registration is required to allow for an accurate food count.  RSVP deadline is Monday, March 9, 2009 by calling the Chamber at 434-352-2621 or by email to chamber@appomattoxchamber.org.

Mar. 19

1st Quarter Member Breakfast

The Chamber will host its first quarter member breakfast on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 7:30am at the Appomattox County High School Culinary Arts Department.

Tickets are $7 for members; $10 for non-members.  Payment is due at the door.  Please RSVP to the Chamber office by Monday, March 16th.  NOTE:  Unless canceled at least 24 hours in advance, all reservations will be billed.

Socialize After Five

The Chamber and the Appomattox County Assembly, Inc. will host the first quarter "Socialize After Five" on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 5:30-7pm at the Carver-Price Cultural Center located on Patricia Anne Lane in Appomattox.

This after-hours networking event is a good time for business leaders and their employees to meet with others in the community, relax with good food & drink, and to "socialize after five."  Don't forget to bring plenty of business cards!  Complimentary food, beverages & door prizes!  Don't miss the fun.

Fashion Show & Dinner

The Appomattox County Assembly, Inc. will host a Fashion Show & Dinner on Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 5-8pm at the Carver-Price Cultural Center located at 106 Patricia Anne Lane in Appomattox.  Fashion show will feature men's, women's and children's fashion for all occasions from Peeble's Department Store.  Dinner will be served after the fashion show. 

Tickets:  $10 for adults; $5 for children 10 & under.

Appomattox History Weekend

Clover Hill Living History Village will host an Appomattox History Weekend on Saturday, April 4th and Sunday, April 5th.  Event is co-sponsored by the Appomattox Historical Society and the Appomattox Chapter of the UDC.  Saturday's event schedule runs from 10am to 4pm and will include Lee's Lieutenants, the Museum of the Confederacy, Airstream Group Campers, soldiers, living history, and book signings.  Sunday's event schedule begins at 2pm and will feature the 143rd annual Confederate Memorial.

2009 Country Cook-Off

The Appomattox Relay for Life will host a 2009 Country Cook-Off fundraiser on Thursday, April 23, 2009 from 5-7pm at the Spout Spring Ruritan Club Building.  Approximately 100 cooks will be preparing their specialties for your enjoyment.  Tickets are $10.00 suggested donation.  All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

April 30

Career Stimulus 2009

National College will host its largest career fair of 2009 on Thursday, April 30, 2009 from 12 noon to 7pm at the Lynchburg campus (104 Candlewood Court between BB&T and Wendy's on Timberlake Road).

Your company is cordially invited to attend this networking event and provide a benefit to potential employees.  Inform participants about your company, discusss employment opportunities, and offer advice about what it takes to be successful in your company.  The career fair is complimentary to all who attend.  Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

2nd Quarter Member Breakfast

The Chamber will host its 2nd quarter member breakfast on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 7:30 AM at Granny Bee's Restaurant (located on Main Street in downtown Appomattox). Our guest speakers will be Anne Dixon, County Tourism Director and Will Simmons, Director of Tourism for the Town of Appomattox.  A buffet breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, fried apples, toast & biscuits, and coffee will be featured.

EC Services, Inc. is hosting a Shop Local Expo on Friday, June 12 & Saturday, June 13, 2009 at AJ Skateworld located at 456 Old Courthouse Road in Appomattox (next to Fred's Car Museum).  This expo is sponsored in part by the Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce.

Essentials to Alpaca Care & Ownership Seminar

Fishwood Farm Alpacas, in partnership with Blue Earth River Farm Alpacas in Harrisonburg, VA, are hosting a seminar entitled "Essentials to Alpaca Care & Ownership" on Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 8:30a-4pAdmission is $20 per person OR $30 per couple.

The day-long seminar is a must for new and prospective Alpaca owners.  Included topics are: Alpaca background & history, shelter considerations, basic health care & breeding, and how to buy.  Dr. Joy Watkins of the Bedford Animal Hospital is the featured guest speaker.  Dr. Watkins will cover topics of vaccinations, parasites & worming, heat & cold weather issues, basic cria care, and when to call a vet.  Basic "hands-on" handling will also be covered.

Appomattox Lions Club Food Festival

Sponsored by the Lions Club, this year's annual food festival is slated to be "the largest food festival ever" and will take place in Courtland Field in downtown Appomattox.  The expanded menu features lots of menu items to please everyone (chicken, pork chops, ribeye steaks, hamburgers, hotdogs, shrimp, lots of assorted veggies and salads, fresh fruit, and numerous desserts), plus your choice of cold beverages (tea, soft drinks, or beer). Live music entertainment will be provided by a band to be announced at a later date. RAIN OR SHINE EVENT!  Lawn chairs are welcome!

Hours are from 3-8:30pm (food will be served from 3-8pm.) Tickets are $20.00 per person (ticket includes multiple trips to food & beverage lines -- NO TAKEOUTS). Free admission for children ages 10 & under.

Tickets may be purchased from any Lions Club member, Wilbun's Supermarket, or by mail at Appomattox Lions Club, PO Box 546, Appomattox, VA 24522.

The Food Festival's proceeds will go to the Appomattox Lions Club, which helps provide assistance to the blind & deaf, as well as diabetes patients in the community.  The Lions Club is also active in various 4-H projects.  Founded in 1939, the Lions Club is celebrating its 70th year of service to the citizens of Appomattox.

Ember Fest 2009

The Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with L.E. Lichford/Budweiser, will host its third annual "Ember Fest" on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 3:30p-8:30p in Courtland Field featuring live music entertainment from a definite crowd pleaser, THE WORX band.

The event will also feature food concessions for a nominal charge from a variety of vendors, beverages (beer & wine coolers are available - proper ID required to obtain a beer bracelet and/or beer tickets), a BBQ cook-off competition (judging to begin at 4p), a 50/50 raffle, and dancing.

Music, food & fun ... sounds like a party!  Don't miss your chance to join us for this huge event.

Admission will be $10 per adult (ages 13 & over) and FREE for children (ages 12 & under).

Historic Appomattox Railroad Festival

Held the second full weekend in October, the festival commemorates the Norfolk & Southern railroad's donation of the Appomattox Depot to the Town of Appomattox.  The two-day festival is held on Main Street and the surrounding downtown area.  Festival highlights include a parade, craft vendors, live bands, train exhibits, food, and lots of activities for the entire family.

Annual Member Dinner

The Chamber will host its annual membership dinner on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Falling River Country Club (located at 2140 Country Club Road).  Complimentary social hour from 6-7p with a buffet dinner catered by ________________ to begin at 7p.  Door prizes awarded.

Community of Candles & Christmas Parade

The annual Appomattox Christmas Parade and Community of Candles will take place on Sunday, Dec. 6th beginning at 1pm with downtown shops open for Christmas shoppers and closing at 6pm with the live nativity scene by Bible Baptist Church.  Santa will greet everyone at the Visitor Center from 2-4pm, various musical groups will provide live music for downtown shoppers on Main Street from 2-4pm, and stew in Abbitt Memorial Park from 3-6pm.

Christmas parade will commence at 4pm, followed by the Community of Candles at 4:30pm.
