"Appomattox Cheerz" |
Typically held on the third Friday of each month at Abbitt Memorial Park or Courtland Field in downtown Appomattox from 5:30-9pm. Events include live performances from local bands, food & beverages (beer & wine coolers are available - proper ID required to obtain a beer bracelet and/or beer tickets), a 50/50 raffle, as well as a local non-profit organization selling drinks, food & snacks. Lawn chairs are always welcome, however, NO coolers or pets please. All children must be accompanied by an adult and must be supervised at all times.

2010 Bluegrass Series |
The ACHS Athletic Booster Club has announced the schedule for the 2010 Bluegrass Series:
Jan. 3, 2010 - 2pm - IIIrd Tyme Out Jan. 24, 2010 - 2pm - Dailey & Vincent Mar. 7, 2010 - 2pm - Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver Mar. 21, 2010 - 2pm - Rhonda Vincent & the Rage
All shows are held at the Appomattox County High School Auditorium located at 198 Evergreen Avenue, Appomattox (434-352-7146).
Ticket prices: Adults ($15); Children 6-12 ($5); Children under 6 (free). Tickets go on sale December 1, 2009 and may be purchased at the following locations: Appomattox (Baine's Books & Coffee, CarQuest and Jamerson Bldg. Supply); Farmville (Taylor Forbes); and Lynchburg (Lynchburg Music Center).

1st Quarter Member Breakfast |
The Chamber will host its first quarter member breakfast on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 7:30am at the Appomattox Community Center. The buffet breakfast will be catered by C&E Grocery with the following menu: sausage & egg casserole, sausage & bacon, sausage gravy & biscuits, hash browns, fried apples, danishes, juice & coffee.
Tickets are $8 for members & invited guests; $10 for non-members. Payment is due at the door. Please RSVP to the Chamber office by Monday, March 15th. NOTE: Unless canceled at least 24 hours in advance, all reservations will be billed.
Featured guest speaker is Traci Blido, Region 2000 Communications Officer and Economic Development Program Manager. Ms. Blido will discuss the changing economic landscape and what is being done to grow high quality jobs during a downturn.

Appomattox History Weekend at Clover Hill Village |
Clover Hill Living History Village will host an Appomattox History Weekend on Friday, April 9th through Sunday, April 11th. Event is co-sponsored by the Appomattox Historical Society and the Appomattox Chapter of the UDC.
Visit with "Lee and his Lieutenants" along with "Grant and his Generals," members of the Appomattox Historical Society, Appomattox United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Sons of Confederate Veterans. Many will be in period dress to open the season at Clover Hill Village. Living history exhibits, including several hundred reenactors, with book signings. Vendors and sutlers.
Friday will be school day. Saturday and Sunday will be open to the public with an admission fee.

2010 Country Cook-Off |
The Appomattox Relay for Life will host a 2010 Country Cook-Off fundraiser on Thursday, April 15, 2010 from 5-7pm at the Spout Spring Ruritan Club Building. Approximately 100 cooks will be preparing their specialties for your enjoyment. Tickets are $10.00 suggested donation. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Entrepreneur Express Workshop |
The Chamber, in conjunction with the Town & County tourism offices, will be hosting an Entrepreneur Express workshop at the Appomattox Community Center (220 Community Lane) on May 27, 2010 from 8:00am to 12:30pm. The workshop is presented by the VA Department of Small Business Assistance, and are designed to provide information on available business resources and deliver practical, hands-on training covering key elements of business practice. Workshop segments will include information on how to start & operate a business, growing an existing business, marketing strategies, financing and available resources.

Appomattox Lions Club Food Festival |
Sponsored by the Lions Club, this year's annual food festival is slated to be "the largest food festival ever" and will take place in Courtland Field in downtown Appomattox. The expanded menu features lots of menu items to please everyone (chicken, pork chops, ribeye steaks, hamburgers, hotdogs, shrimp, lots of assorted veggies and salads, fresh fruit, and numerous desserts), plus your choice of cold beverages (tea, soft drinks, or beer). Live music entertainment will be provided by a band to be announced at a later date. RAIN OR SHINE EVENT! Lawn chairs are welcome!
Hours are from 3-8:30pm (food will be served from 3-8pm.) Tickets are $20.00 per person (ticket includes multiple trips to food & beverage lines -- NO TAKEOUTS). Free admission for children ages 10 & under.
Tickets may be purchased from any Lions Club member, Wilbun's Supermarket, or by mail at Appomattox Lions Club, PO Box 546, Appomattox, VA 24522.
The Food Festival's proceeds will go to the Appomattox Lions Club, which helps provide assistance to the blind & deaf, as well as diabetes patients in the community. The Lions Club is also active in various 4-H projects. Founded in 1939, the Lions Club is celebrating its 70th year of service to the citizens of Appomattox. |

Ember Fest 2010 |
The Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with L.E. Lichford/Budweiser, will host its fourth annual "Ember Fest" on Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 4:30p-8:30p in Courtland Field featuring live music entertainment from a definite crowd pleaser, THE WORX band.
The event will feature a BBQ cook-off competition (judging to begin at 5:30p), BBQ concessions for a nominal charge from the BBQ cook-off competitors, beverages (beer & wine coolers are available - proper ID required to obtain a beer bracelet and/or beer tickets), a 50/50 raffle, and dancing. There will also be a kids' corner with inflatable bounces and face-painting. The _______________ will be supervising the kids' corner and providing the face-painting as part of their fundraising effort. All donations towards this cause will gladly be accepted!
Music, food & fun ... sounds like a party! Don't miss your chance to join us for this huge event.

Historic Appomattox Railroad Festival |
Held the second full weekend in October, the festival commemorates the Norfolk & Southern railroad's donation of the Appomattox Depot to the Town of Appomattox. The two-day festival is held on Main Street and the surrounding downtown area. Festival highlights include a parade, craft vendors, live bands, train exhibits, food, and lots of activities for the entire family.

Annual Member Dinner |
The Chamber will host its annual membership dinner on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the Falling River Country Club (located at 2140 Country Club Road). Complimentary social hour from 6-7p with a buffet dinner catered by _____________________ to begin at 7p. Door prizes awarded.

Featured guest speaker is Scott Hippert, President of the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation (VECF). Community of Candles & Christmas Parade |
The annual Appomattox Christmas Parade and Community of Candles will take place on Sunday, Dec. 5th beginning at 1pm with downtown shops open for Christmas shoppers and closing at 6pm with the live nativity scene by Bible Baptist Church. Santa will greet everyone at the Visitor Center from 2-4pm, various musical groups will provide live music for downtown shoppers on Main Street from 2-4pm, and stew in Abbitt Memorial Park from 3-6pm.
Christmas parade will commence at 4pm, followed by the Community of Candles at 4:30pm.
