Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce - Appomattox, Virginia

About the Chamber

Since 1967, the Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce has been committed to the advancement of commercial, industrial, agricultural, and civic interests of Appomattox County and its trade area.  As Roy A. Moon, the Chamber's first president, once said, "A chamber of commerce can coordinate the effects of a county and can help us speak as one voice.  Whatever helps Appomattox County will help you."

The Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce is an instrument of the business community, organized to enhance the collective interests of members' business firms. It serves as an economic development and business advocacy organization. The Chamber works along with town and county officials to assist Region 2000, a public/private partnership, in its promotion of business and economic development of our area.

The Chamber's leadership, a 12 member Board of Directors, realizes that our county is home to an enormously valuable economic resource: the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, which is visited by over 150,000 people each year. This resource results in increasingly more dollars spent in our county. That means more revenue for our local governments and, hopefully, less strain on Appomattox businesses and residents.

Appomattox was accepted in the state's new Tourism Accreditation Program in the spring of 1992 and completed this program in 1995. One of the requirements was the establishment and operation of a Visitors Information Center. In July 1993, the Appomattox Visitors Information Center (VIC) opened in the renovated Appomattox Depot.
The VIC provides displays on local attractions. Visitors and area residents can pick up maps, brochures, business directories, a local calendar of events, and other travel and tourist information at the center.

The Chamber oversaw the daily operation of the VIC from 1992 through September 2006, which was run primarily by volunteers, eight hours a day, seven days a week. As of October 1, 2006, the Town of Appomattox and its Department of Tourism took over the VIC, and it will now be run with paid employees.

Information about businesses that are Chamber members and other services offered by the Chamber are available through the Chamber office and its website.  The Chamber receives many phone and letter requests for business and relocation information, which provides excellent exposure for our members.  Any current Chamber member is entitled to include a brochure or flyer promoting their business in our relocation packages.

The Chamber office is now located at 276 Court Street in downtown Appomattox.
