Oil Painting Workshop – 2 Classes! August 18 & Sept 15
Judy Moore-Gist, Certified Ross Instructor, is back at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center located 1267 4-H Camp Rd. Appomattox, VA 24522 to teach two classes, Aug 18 and Sept 15 in the wet-on-wet technique made popular by Bill Alexander and Bob Ross. Experience the ‘magic and joy of painting’ as you create your dream on canvas. At the end of one session you’ll be amazed at beautiful painting you created. Open to ages 15 and up, no experience is necessary, beginners are welcome! The cost for each class is $75.00 and covers instruction fees, all materials and lunch. Decoy Carving Workshop – Sept. 18-22
No experience necessary! Learn to carve your own decoy or sharpen your current carving skills under the instruction of Carver, Ed Morrison. This workshop, for adults, will be held at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center located at 1267 4-H Camp Rd. Appomattox, VA 24522 from Sept. 18-22. Decoys will be carved from Tupelo, a favored decoy wood, using knives and rasps. All tools are provided, personal tools are welcome. Fee of $295.00 covers programming fees, instruction, the decoy kit, meals and lodging. Registration Deadline is September 2, 2016. VA Hunter Skills – Sept. 30-Oct 2
Learn new hunting skills or hone the ones you have at VA Hunter Skills Weekend, Sept 30-Oct 2 at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center located at 1267 4-H Camp Rd. Appomattox, VA. This is a family camp open to ages 11 and up (11-18 must attend with a participating parent). This partnership program presented by Virginia Hunter Education Association, VA Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center offers classes in Rifle, Shotgun, Muzzleloading, Pistol and Archery. Other classes offered include: Turkey Hunting, Small Game Hunting, Deer Hunting or Predator Hunting, Recovering Wounded Game, Preserving your Wild Game Harvest or Wild Game Cooking along with many more. Early bird price of $115 applies through Sept. 9th, then normal price of $125 applies. Prices include all meals Friday dinner –Sunday lunch, lodging and all instruction. Weaving Workshop – Oct 2-5
Learn the basics of weaving at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center’s Weaving Workshop scheduled for Oct 2-5 and located at 1267 4-H Camp Rd. Appomattox, VA. This newly offered workshop will be taught by expert weaver Patricia Morton. You will learn basic weaving skills using the rigid heddle and 4 shaft looms and learn about direct and indirect loom warping methods. Using a wool blend or a rayon chenille yarn in a variety of color choices, you will create your own scarf. Price of $435.00 includes all materials, (including use of looms) expert instruction, all meals and lodging. Registration Deadline is September 16th. Virginia Waterfowling Workshop – Oct. 21-23
Virginia Water Fowling Workshop will be held Oct 21-23 at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center located at 1267 4-H Camp Rd. Appomattox, VA. This workshop, co-sponsored by VA Waterfowlers Association, Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center and VA Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is open to ages 12 to 90 (children under 18 must attend with a participating parent). Classes taught by highly skilled instructors include Blind Design and Construction, Waterfowl Nesting Structures, Decoy Carving, Decoy Placement, Decoy Restoration, Waterfowl Calling, Wing Shooting Techniques, Waterfowl Habitat Management, Waterfowl Game Care and Cooking, Predator Management, Retriever Training Clinic and much more. Register before Sept 23rd at the Early Bird price of $135, after Sept 23rd price is $145. Price includes all meals Friday dinner-Sunday lunch, lodging and all instruction. Registration deadline is Oct 7th.
